Description
By Howard McKnight Wilson
The Great Valley (Ridge and Valley region of western Virginia) was a magnet for rugged individualistic settlers in the days of the Virginia colony. These people feared God and defended their area with a vengeance. This book explores those people who answered the first calls of George Washington and Patrick Henry to fight for liberty, sometimes called Western Virginians, back country men, and over-the-mountain men. Commissioned and published by the Augusta County Historical Society during the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976.
